Summer 2012 Midterm Briefing Presentation for the Sustainability Management Capstone Workshop will take place on Wednesday, June 27 from 6:10 to 8:00 p.m. in 507 Lewisohn Hall.
The workshop midterm briefings are delivered at the midpoint of semester-long projects working on sustainability issues. This semester students have undertaken a project on environmental performance reporting for the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). This will be an opportunity to learn more about the project and provide feedback for your colleagues as they prepare their final client reports and presentations.

The City of New York is excited to announce its first sustainability hackathon: Reinvent Green, a joint initiative of NYC Digital and the Mayor’s Office of Long-term Planning and Sustainability. Hosted at NYU-Poly in downtown Brooklyn over the weekend of Saturday, June 30 and Sunday, July 1, 2012, the hackathon aims to rally and incentivize the City’s best technology talent to create digital tools and apps that encourage a greener, greater New York. The City is very excited to partner with two great Brooklyn technology institutions on this initiative – NYU-Poly and Brooklyn Beta.
Space is limited. Development and design candidates are encouraged to apply now through Sunday, June 17 by completing the short application at the link below. Candidates will be informed of the status of their application by Friday, June 22.
The City is proud to team up once again with the talented technology community in New York, and looks forward to collaborating to address the City’s most important sustainability challenges.

Watch Lauren Yarmuth, LEED Faculty for USGBC, principal at YR&G who is teaching the course CNAD4130 Green Building and sustainability: Tools and Techniques speak about state of sustainability in the business environment.
Lauren Yarmuth teaches “Green Building and Sustainability: Tools and Techniques” in the Construction Administration graduate program at Columbia’s School of Continuing Education and is co-founder and principal of YR&G. With over ten years of experience spearheading the sustainability industry, she is a recognized leader skilled at helping people, companies, buildings, and communities to implement and benefit from sustainability-focused solutions.
An architect by training, Yarmuth applies her diverse project experience and whole-systems perspective to enable teams of people to develop creative approaches to realize greater success in their work. This process draws upon Yarmuth’s skills in teaching, facilitating an integrative process, and inspiring people to engage with their work and surroundings in more meaningful ways.
Yarmuth is also a celebrated presenter, educator, and facilitator. She is LEED Faculty for USGBC, and she teaches at various colleges and universities including as faculty at Columbia University and New York University.
She has worked with the LEED Rating System since its inception including supporting hundreds of projects nationally and internationally to earn LEED certification, and as a technical consultant to USGBC for project certification reviews, credit interpretation (CIR) responses, reference guide content development, and training curriculum.
