CUNY’s Solar Map Fuel for a Sunny City: Technical Roundtable – Wednesday, December 5th
The NYC Solar Map is an interactive online tool that allows users to estimate the solar energy potential for every building in New York City’s five boroughs by inputting the building address. The map is hosted by CUNY and highlights existing solar installations, displays real-time solar energy production, and shows the costs, incentives, and payback period for investing in solar. By analyzing the solar potential of every building in the five boroughs, experts have calculated that the total useable roof area for solar PV installations is approximately 615 million square feet. This area could yield a solar potential of 5,800 MW at peak output or over 40 percent of the City’s electrical demand at peak times.
