Columbia University Earth Summit – Friday, March 29th

Registration is now open for The 2nd Columbia University Earth Summit, which will take place on Friday, March 29, 2013, at the Columbia University Faculty House. This year’s Earth Summit also features interactive sessions, such as an Idea Lab (watch world-changing proposals being pitched to investors) and a Social Venture Challenge hosted by The Resolution Project in collaboration with The Earth Institute’s Center on Globalization and Sustainable Development. The day will end with a networking reception.

State of the Planet Conference: A World at Risk: Water Security – Thursday, March 28th

A World at Risk: Water Security The issues of water and food security are timely and important to the discussion of the future of sustainable development. Population and climate are major drivers, leading to regional water constraints that are emerging as critical in many places in the world. The ability of societies to deal with these threats is coming into question, whether the issue is the provision of safe drinking water, or of access of industries to water, the rapid depletion of groundwater by agriculture, limits to energy production and mineral extraction, or the impacts of degraded water bodies on ecosystems. What are the innovations that can address these challenges, and what are some examples of sustainable directions towards solution?

Earth Institute Student Advisory Council Networking Meeting – Thursday, February 21st

The Earth Institute Student Advisory Council invites you to its first networking meeting on Thursday, February 21st at 7pm in the Auditorium in Earl Hall. This is an opportunity to: Coordinate sustainability efforts and events for Earth Day/Earth Week; voice your suggestions about sustainability at Columbia; and meet other student organizers who are working on sustainable development initiatives!
