MSSM Student Profile: Pamela Alabaster Earns Recognition as CSR Leader

Current M.S. in Sustainability Management (MSSM) student Pamela Alabaster joined the program after a corporate sustainability appointment at L’Oréal USA with the express purpose of honing her skills in the corporate social responsibility field. Through meaningful lectures and applicable project-based coursework, Pamela has acquired the practical knowledge and understanding in the field and has been recognized by the industry for her innovative work. Columbia University Senate Quality of Life Survey – April 8th

Watch for emails for a chance to win an iPad: On April 8th the Student Affairs Committee (SAC) of the University Senate will be launching a university-wide Quality of Life (QoL) survey designed to capture student quality of life through qualitative and quantitative elements, to be carried out every two years. SAC has worked with the Office of the President, the Office of the Provost, and the Board of Trustees on the conception and execution of this initiative, and it represents the work of over a year by a dedicated team. The survey should take approximately 20 minutes. Survey respondents stands a chance to win 3 iPads and over $3000 worth of prizes and gift cards.

Join the Earth Institute’s Climate Ride Team!

MSSM student, Scott Miller, invites you to participate in the Earth Institute's Climate Ride Team! The first Climate Ride takes place from May 19th – 23rd, 2013, and passes through Northern California’s magnificent redwoods and beach towns along the dramatic Pacific Coast before crossing the Golden Gate Bridge into San Francisco. The second ride takes place from September 21st-25th, beginning in New York City and ending on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. As a participant in one (or both!) of these rides, you will help support the Earth Institute’s work to develop sustainable solutions to the most pressing problems of our time.

Sustainable Perspectives Symposium: The Systems Approach – Saturday March 30th

SUMASA is proud to present it's major student-run event - SPER'2013 Sustainable Perspectives Symposium: The Systems Approach. In order to develop viable solutions to the problems facing our global society, we need to understand how to think sustainably -- and systematically. SPER'2013 will include a half-day symposium of dynamic speakers across many industries, and a panel discussion that will all provide a first-hand look at applied systems thinking. Keynote speaker, Elizabeth Thompson of the Buckminster Fuller Institute, will unpack the core concepts of systems thinking and how they can be implemented to solutions for climate change, environmental degradation, and economic instability. An interactive workshop will explore previous winners of the BFI's Challenge and provide a first-hand look at applied systems thinking.
